Homayra: Hey everyone! It’s Homayra, and I’ve got my awesome sister, Hamila, here with me as we dive into the world of interior design.
Hamila: Hello, lovely people! We’re the Bahrami sisters, engaged in our creative work in different corners of North America. I’m soaking up the sun in Los Angeles, while Homayra is enjoying the liquid sunshine in beautiful Vancouver, Canada.
Homayra: Our design journey began with a shared passion for creating beautiful spaces. We headed to UCLA Extension for the ARC-ID Program (Architecture & Interior Design), not just for education but also to fuel our excitement for design.
Hamila: Absolutely! UCLA equipped us with the skills we needed, and a visit to the historic Adamson House in Malibu during our studies was enlightening. The intricate details of the Malibu Potteries tile sparked our “Malibu Paper Potteries” project, where we were so honored that our work was chosen for display at this first-ever rotating exhibit at Adamson House and The Malibu Lagoon Museum.
Homayra: That project was a game-changer for us. It turned our inspiration into something real, earning us a scholarship and making our sisterly collaboration even stronger.
Hamila: Riding the wave of creativity, we decided to try something new—gift wrapping. Taking inspiration from fashion magazine covers, we started crafting unique designs. Our catchy slogan, “Dress up boxes like style icons.” resonated with people, and our gift wrapping designs became widely loved.
Homayra: Even though Hamila is in LA and I’m in Vancouver, we’re still at it, bringing creativity to our interior styling and gift wrapping projects.
Hamila: Today, we stand as two proud sisters, reflecting on what we’ve accomplished. Looking back at that crucial moment is a reminder of where we began, sparking our creativity and laying the foundation for our successful collaboration.
